The Best Ways To Lose Weight Fast, Tips From Regular Joes

It’s not only professionals who know ways to lose weight fast, regular people have some pretty good ideas too.

Avoid fried meat, eat only grilled or boiled meat like steak and chicken  Use a lot of spices to make it even better.

Stop drinking sodas.  Those are empty calories so stop drinking them and substitute water.  (Note that the average person adds 90,000 calories a year from drinking juice or soda.  WOW!  That’s a great tip.)

If there’s no junk food at home you can’t eat it.  When shopping, make a list, stick to what’s on the list.

Give yourself a treat.  When you can’t eat something you end up craving it more, and eventually binging.  Enjoy a treat once a week, or even once a day in smaller quantities.  Don’t go crazy, remember the rule of moderation.

Trick yourself into being satisfied with less by eating off a smaller plate.  (Not only are you tricking yourself, even if the trick doesn’t work it’s easier to stop eating when the plate is empty and there’s no more food available.)

Stay away from quick weight loss fad diets.  They starve you and then you eat more when the diet is over.

Exercise at every opportunity, even at the desk with some leg lifts.  (That’s a great idea to increase your metabolism.)

Measure your food.  If you have junk food be careful to measure and control the portion.  (Portion control is a big part of a healthy diet.  Most restaurants and even people at home serve portions that are way too large.)

Get really sick.  After a month in the hospital I had lost 25 pounds.  (Bad idea.  It’s best to stick to weight loss plans while staying healthy.  After all, the ultimate goal is improved health.)

Stay with something long enough to repeat it a few times, then you can coast.  (It’s said that when we repeat something 21 times it becomes a habit.  Sometimes the number is different, but the idea is the same.  Will power is only necessary to repeat something enough times for it to become a habit.)

When you eat rapidly the body doesn’t have time to feel full.  Take your time.

These are all great tips from regular Joes just like us.  A lot of them also happen to be common advice given by experts on safe weight loss.  It turns out ways to lose weight fast do exist, and they’re not something only doctors can know.

Is your health at risk with quick weight loss diets?

Quick weight loss plans and fad diets are an unwise alternative to permanent healthy eating habits, according to the American Heart Association. Many of these fad diets, such as the notorious and outright silly Cabbage Soup Diet, will undermine your health, cause physical problems (abdominal discomfort and flatulence(gas)) and lead to the yo-yo’ing effect of gaining weight back soon after parting with it. In other words the risks aren’t worth the rewards.

One food or one type of food is usually overemphasized with fad quick weight loss diets. They don’t include much variety or a healthy balance, a violation of the first principle of good nutrition, eat a balanced diet that includes a variety of foods. If you are able to stick with such a diet for more than a few weeks, you could develop nutritional deficiencies, because no one type of food has all the nutrients a human being needs for good health.

The Cabbage Soup Diet is one example. The myth of this diet is that cabbage soup is some sort of weight loss potion. The diet supposedly helps heart patients lose 10–17 pounds in seven days before surgery. Even if the weight loss claim were true, all the damage due to a lack of a host of important nutrients would far outweigh (pun intended) the benefits of losing the weight. Pixies, elves and fairies, or even cabbages, can’t provide magical weight loss. Moderation in eating all the major food groups is the best way to go.

These crazy diets also break a second important principle of good nutrition which is that eating should be enjoyable. It’s impossible to stick with these diets for a long time because they’re so dull. Consider a week on the Cabbage Soup Diet. By Wednesday you’d dread meal time, and by Friday you’d never again want to hear about a cabbage let alone eat the soup. They would probably have to carry you away in a straight jacket by Sunday.

Boredom isn’t the only reason quick weight loss diets aren’t good for your health. Most don’t talk about exercise, such as aerobics for 30 minutes a day every day. Physical activity helps maintain weight loss, while physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. When you hear of a diet that includes “no need for exercise” run for the hills, or at least run on a treadmill.

Quick weight loss really sounds great. It is a possibility. Just don’t fall for those cons or scams that might end up ruining your health in the process.
